An Invisible Crisis

Breaking the Cycle: Scorpion Creek Ranch’s Innovative Model
for the Youth Homelessness Crisis

Our nation faces an  escalating, in-our-face epidemic around homelessness. The same government funded solutions continue even though they fall drastically short of what is truly needed. They are a band-aid on a bullet wound.  The number of unaccompanied homeless teenagers in this country is staggering.

It's time for a new model - a holistic, immersive model that will actually change the lives of homeless teens from one of suffering and disconnection, to one of stability, connection, and community, breaking generational trauma.

Scorpion Creek Ranch (SCR) will emerge as a beacon of hope, promising to redefine the narrative of youth homelessness with a pioneering educational and therapeutic model. Committed to transforming the lives of homeless teens aged 14-18, SCR's planned model is built on a foundation of education and empowerment, aiming to equip these young individuals not only with academic knowledge but with practical skills, emotional support, and a sense of community. The proposed programs include vocational training, therapeutic interventions, and life skills development, all tailored to help teens transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency and success.

SCR is a groundbreaking model nurturing the potential of high school age, unaccompanied homeless youth. Our focus: REBOOTING, REJUVENATING, and REDIRECTING the lives of these vulnerable children.

Our approach blends vocational training—like farming, equine therapy, and culinary arts—with emotional well-being and conflict resolution. We target underserved youth facing adversity, offering the skills and support needed for them to thrive and positively impact their communities.

We're driven by the belief that a supportive environment can spark significant change in youth’s lives. At SCR, we prioritize holistic growth, aiming to renew spirits and guide teens toward self-discovery, resilience, and success.

Our innovative approach to tackling youth homelessness, backed by a dedicated and compassionate team of educators, entrepreneurs, medical professionals, and artists, sets us up for success.

Our goal is to redefine solutions for youth homelessness, helping teenagers start a transformative journey to a hopeful future.

OUR MODEL:

We will bring homeless teens on to a beautiful ranch setting, 75-100 acres where they will stay for somewhere between 6-24 months. We will help them heal from trauma with a team of Trauma Informed Care professionals. They will have a safe, warm bed to sleep in - every night. They will have nourishing food to eat. The SCR team will support the teens teaching them life skills, emotional skills, and vocational skills through a project based learning model, inspiring teens to develop a love of learning.

Teens will go on field trips every week to go on hikes, see the ocean, visit organic farms & ranch's where they raise animals in humane ways. They will learn how to grow organic food, study beekeeping, and care for and connect with farm animals like horses, cows, goats, and dogs. Teens will learn how to cook tasty nutritious meals and then enjoy these meals together. They will learn yoga, music, art, computer skills, financial literacy. They will be able to get their GED.

Every day will end with a campfire, sharing stories, playing music, building connection and community, building their self esteem and self worth.

This vision seeks not just to change lives but to change how society addresses homelessness—transforming it from an issue to be fixed to a challenge completely overcome.

Our goal is ambitious yet achievable: to establish a replicable standard for eradicating youth homelessness and enhancing community well-being across the country, proving that profound, lasting change is possible.

solve the root causes of youth homelessness, creating a proven blueprint for nationwide adoption.

SCR is set on a mission to partner with 100,000 'sustaining members' committed to ending youth homelessness. By joining the movement with a donation of just $10 a month, donors have the opportunity to address homelessness at its roots.

The call to action is clear: Do more than just fix homelessness; aim to end the cycle. Becoming a Sustaining Member will mean stepping into the role of a changemaker. Together, with Scorpion Creek Ranch, we can look forward to forging a path to a brighter future for our youth and society.

About Scorpion Creek Ranch

Through its therapeutic and hands-on programs and its healing environment, Scorpion Creek Ranch will provide vital resources to under-served teens, helping them to reboot, rejuvenate, and redirect their spirits.

Being unwanted, unloved, uncared for, forgotten by everybody, I think that is a much greater hunger, a much greater poverty than the person who has nothing to eat.”
